Youth Blast

On the 17^th of August the SHAK Youth Resource Centre the Youth Blast Dance Party took place between 7pm to 10pm with thanks to the support of the Blue Light Disco Association and the Darwin City Council who sponsored them. Also, a big thankyou goes to the School Based Police Officers who were present on the night, assisting in making the night more fun and safe for the young participants.

Mission Australia, Melaleuca and the NT Multicultural Society along with the SHAK Kids Advisory Taskforce (SKAT) ensured a strong attendance of 88 young people from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds who came together and danced as one in this fun and safe event.

To be held every month over the next 5 months with the support of the NT Office of Youth Affairs, this Dance Party started what will hopefully continue to lead to more successful Youth Blast Activities in the future.

The young members of SKAT advised that the event was one of our better attended Dance Parties in the last 2 years and are looking forward to helping with the others providing support at the entry and selling drinks and providing food to the participants. Over $150 worth of prizes were given away and no incidents of concern were raised.
